AAR started its operations in 1984 as a company meant to deal solely with evacuation of medical and accident casualties both by road and by air. As its membership increased the requirements of its clients expanded. Very soon the evacuation service became only one of the many services offered to members and was no longer the core business of the company. AAR Today AAR is the largest and most successful private health care company in East Africa. It operates eighteen health centres in three countries, providing preventative and curative health care to clients in all income brackets, as well as offering a rescue and evacuation service to its members from anywhere in the world. With a current membership of close to 100,000 AAR leads the way in the transition from Central Government to the private sector in the provision of health care to the citizens of the East African region.. |

AAR hosted the brave Rose Nasimiyu at AAR’s George Williamson Clinic on Friday 29th July, 2011. Nine- Year Old Rose Nasimiyu
who has made headlines in the past two weeks due to her courage in battling with Hodgkin's Lymphoma which is the cancer of the lymph tissue has touched many lives including that of AAR’s CEO Jagi Gakunju.
As a result, the CEO offered on behalf of AAR to bear the costs of three of Rose' chemotherapy sessions at Gertrude’s Children’s hospital. “We felt our gesture would become a catalyst for others to offer assistance,” said Mr. Gakunju. “We had touched Rose and unknowingly others in a way we did not envisage,” he said. The response from Rose’s fans and general public in praise of AAR’s gesture was immediate and overwhelming.
Rose who wants to be a pediatric oncologist and a model when she grows up believes that she will live to be a voice to those suffering from cancer as she is.
