    AAR Bweyogerere Clinic had a tree planting exercise at Kamuli Church of Uganda Primary School on Friday April 11, 2014. The AAR team was led by the AAR Bweyogerere Health centre manager Dr.Stephen lugolobi.The event is under trees for health programme of the AAR Beckmann Trust. The Trees for Health programme combines health of environment with children's health. One of the ways the Trees for Health programme is achieved is by directly involving schools, communities, teachers and children, in the tree planting process right from hole preparation to care and management of the tree, hence an environmental conscious generation.AAR Beckmann Trust was set up in 2007 with the aim to facilitate the development of a health care environment which impacts right down to the lowest income earners. AAR Uganda has been planting trees and undertaking deworming exercises at selected education institutions since 2012.AAR Uganda has carried out similar activities at Ntinda primary School, Kitante primary school and at St Mary’s College Lugazi in the past 2 years. This is one of the many events that AAR is undertaking as it celebrates 30 years of existence in East Africa.The team also had a health talk at the school. Uganda has lost about 28 per cent of its cover with recent surveys pointing to annual losses of about 92,000 hectares (on public and private land). At this rate, reports indicate that if nothing is done to curb the trend, Uganda could lose its forest cover by 2040. This year we have visited three schools.

    AAR partnered with Uganda Police to hold a Health awareness day. The Event was at the Uganda Police headquarters in Naguru on March 28, 2014.Over 200 people benefited from the services. The AAR team carried out free BMI measurements, blood pressure check- ups, HIV testing and counselling, blood sugar check- up, and free doctor consultation.

    AAR Health care organized a tree planting and deworming exercise at Ntinda primary school on March 21, 2014. The exercise was spearheaded by AAR Ntinda Health Centre which is opposite the school. The AAR team also held health and environment talks for the pupils.The guest of honour was the AAR Beckmann Trust (AARBT) Programmes Officer Jeridah Ambiyo who senstised the media and school children about the environment. The day was crucial because the world was marking the World Forestry Day.Uganda has lost about 28 per cent of its cover with recent surveys pointing to annual losses of about 92,000 hectares (on public and private land). At this rate, reports indicate that if nothing is done to curb the trend, Uganda could lose its forest cover by 2040.

    People still think climate change is distant from Africa but it is already here impacting on health. In Uganda, we just went through a dry spell that has pushed milk prices up. This last dry season was characterized by rather high temperatures, and it has had an impact on various farming activities.Individual decisions seem small but they have an impact if we are consistent. Trees are the fundamental bases in climate change mitigation because they can be relied upon for increased carbon sequestration .AAR Uganda has been planting trees and undertaking deworming exercises at selected education institutions since 2012.AAR Uganda has carried out similar activities at Ntinda primary School, Kitante primary school and at St Mary’s College Lugazi in the past 2 years.AAR Uganda was awarded a Runner –Up Environmental Excellence certificate for the “Trees for Health programme” during the 2nd Bank M East Africa CSR Awards in 2012.#AARtreesforhealth, #cleanenergy, #green, #climatechange , and #climate are the current hashtags we are using for the project.
